Bruce reminds caregivers of some of the differences and similarities involved with “bringing up a child” and “bringing down a parent,” but emphasizes socialization with your elders. Often times when our older loved ones are not physically able to get around any longer, we tend to keep them safe and protected in their own homes. But, it’s vital to their physical and mental health to stay socially engaged with friends and family members. Bruce suggests taking them to the movies, playing cards and asking them questions about their lives. I’ve had wonderful conversations with my elder loved ones by simply taking a walk in the park.
